A settlement in the WebTv law suit has been reached. Settlement benefits were mailed to those who are part of the class. http://www.webtvsettlement.com

Software is now available for P.C.'s using, windows xp media center edition 2004, that will allow them to view some MsnTV content on their TV's. The email I received from MsnTv stated P.C. users could view "news, weather and more". P.C. users, can you stand the excitement?

October 15, 2003
A 2.8.2 update is now available to MsnTv users. You will need this update to be able to create a chat room with MsnTv chat. When you click create a chat room, you will be prompted to take the update.

August 19, 2003
The 2.8.1 update is now being released to users. It is supposed to help MsnTv users be more compatible with Msn Messenger.

July 31, 2003
In the next few weeks MsnTv will require users to sign up for Microsoft Passport to be able to use Msn Messenger. If you do not sign up for passport you wll not be able to use Messenger after October 1, 2003. There will also be a server side update to enable the changes, which users are required to take to continue using messenger.

MsnTv Developer
MsnTv developer is back on line after being hacked earlier this month. They acknowledge the hack in their forum.
May 23, 2003
An email I received from MsnTv stated that the new look for the MsnTv home page will be available in the next few days.
Also it said, due to behind the scenes changes, the page and links on it will load faster.....Faster....I doubt anyone at MsnTv knows the meaning of the word.

May 18, 2003
A new look for the MsnTv home page is being previewed and could be available for users in the next few weeks. Nothing new in the way of services just a face lift.
Also news from Microsoft that it is in the process of changing servers from unix to windows .net. MsnTv is included in the server change. Some say this server change will eliminate most if not all wtv- codes.

In response to a post in one of MSN's developer news groups, MsnTv Developer acknowledged it had been Hacked. It stated Msn was investigating the issue and Developer will probably be back on line by May 14th.

Upgrade 2.8
MsnTv has released the 2.8 upgrade to some users. The upgrade is slowly being released first to new classic users. Old classic and plus users should see the 2.8 in the next few weeks.

March 1, 2003
MsnTv released a behind-the-scenes upgrade for it's member center. It is supposed to able five of the member center pages (news, sports, money, entertainment, around town) to load faster. Fellow webbies can you feel the excitement? Now the lame, dated info MsnTv provides can load faster. I personally had no problem with any of the member center pages loading before and I can't tell any difference now. Just like Msn to fix something that isn't broke and not addressing issues that have plagued users for years.

Class Action Settlement
WebTv customers were notified of a proposed settlement in the Class Action lawsuit filed by some former users of WebTv in California. The settlement as expected, doesn't really do any thing except get WebTv off the hook and line the pockets of the lawyers. http://www.webtvsettlement.com/subscribers

October 28, 2002
Upgrade 2.8 is now being "previewed". MsnTv had hoped to have the upgrade out in a couple weeks. It seems the "previewers" have encountered some of the same problems that seem to happen with every upgrade. No doubt the upgrade will be delayed.

September 6, 2002
The 2.7.1 update is now available. You can get the update with the wtv-tricks code. From your MsnTv home page push the go to key on your keyboard. Erase the http:// then type wtv-tricks:offer-2.7.1 The update should start. I haven't noticed much difference with this update except my unit seems to run slower, if that's possible.

September 4, 2002
A tool to view and reset your cookies is now available from MsnTv. You can access the cookie tool from MsnTv help then click latest news. This is something that should have been made availble from WebTv/MsnTv to it's users a long time ago.

June 15, 2002
New MsnTv branded boxes are being released. Nothing new on the inside. The only difference is the logo.

April 5, 2002
The 3.5 upgrade for UltimateTv is now being released. As usual reviews seem to be mixed. Most report that the TV listing search is faster and better. Also some improvement in overall performance.

March 26, 2002
2.7 is now being forced on users by MsnTv. With the release of the 2.7 retrogrades below 2.6.1 are no longer available. Some users have reported better service but, several say bugs still persist and service is worse. My upgrade info page will tell you how you can upgrade or retro your unit.

February 04, 2002
The issues with the 2.7 have not been resolved. In an email I received today from MsnTv states, users will have to have the 2.7 to be able to connect.

In a phone conversation I had with a csr "supervisor" he stated that "soon" all MsnTv users, except old classic, will "have to have the 2.7 to even be able to connect". This is not good news for subscribers, since the issues with the 2.7 haven't been resolved. It seems clear now that Micosoft purchased WebTv not to make it better but, for the TV technology and to increase it's base of msn users. More smoke and mirrors for Microsoft!

November 16, 2001
In response to several e-mails I sent, MsnTv says they know of the bugs associated with the 2.7 and are working to fix them. They gave no time of resolution and said "it may take a while".

October 24, 2001
MsnTv has started rolling out the 2.7 upgrade. Problems are already reported with chat, tv listings and css. Looks like it's gonna be another crappy nograde.....update 11-15-01...TV listings are back and css seems to be fixed.

October 11, 2001
MsnTv has dropped and is no longer affiliated with Talkcity chat. With the 2.7 upgrade due out soon, MsnTv users will be able to use MSN chat.

September 4, 2001
The change to MsnTv has been mostly painless. Most complaints I've heard have to do with slow connection/surfing and the javascript bug. Guess some things never change.....Look for a new upgrade 2.7 hopefully by the end of the year.

The new MSNTv home page preview. http://help.webtv.net/MSN_Upgrade.html

July 20, 2001
The first official word about WebTv changing to MSNTv is an email to it's users from WebTv. Saying, all WebTv services will remain the same for it's users. Just a name change and a new look....I hope the transition goes smoothly but, judging by WebTv's past performance, they will probably screw something up.
